Dinner Party

Scene: Dinnertime. Our house. It's dark out because it's winter. There's spaghetti and meatballs on the table,, then on our forks, then on our faces.
I take a picture of each of the babies, because their orange faces make them look like oompa loompas. Abby then begs, "Take one of meeeee," which is an echo I hear every time I take a picture of anything but Abby.
I laugh at how predictable it all is, and smile because it's exactly what I love. Knowing my girls so well I can know what they will say and do next, sometimes. (I also love surprises like after-dinner little girl streaking, a baby's first claps and when one seems to say 'day-doo' that almost sounds like than you, when I put a serving of meatball on the high chair tray.)
Nothing out of the ordinary or special about that dinner. It warms my soul so to have these pictures of just another night, eating homemade food, listening to Christmas music, around our family table, waiting for Daddy to get home from work.

  1. was it Robin clapping? Because we were teaching her that yesterday.

  2. I loved looking up from the piano at noon today and glimpsing Abby peeking over the heat register, babies sitting in your lap, babies crawling around... the four of you looked so wonderful together.

  3. ahahah They do look like Oompa Loompas!

    They are all adorable!
