The Happiness ProjectThe Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I found this book to contain helpful insights, and offer me ways to look at my life anew, but on the whole I found it unsuited to my tastes. I was expecting her to have to deal with a traumatic event, or at least some big life event in which she is called to really put her research to the test. Measuring her happiness from one month to the next in which nothing has substantially changed was not very helpful.

I found that when she was describing the application of a happiness technique to an aspect of her life or an interest we shared, I was much more involved and able to transport myself into the book. When she involved an activity in which I have no interest, I found myself struggling to get through it to the next passage.

I underlined some thoughts I am sure I will return to and may even one day read this book again, to see if its anecdotes and guidelines are more helpful at a different stage of life.
